Pros and cons of old Seitron thermostats

The fear, when a thermostat begins to age, is that it will abandon us right in the middle of winter, leaving us in the cold.

Changing the thermostat is sometimes a last resort, but when the device is old, it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider replacing it even if we're happy with it.

Let's see the pros and cons that we may have to face in the decision-making process to arrive at  choose whether or not to change the thermostat .

Changing the old thermostat: pros and cons

If the  old thermostat  certainly has the advantage of being  reliable easy to use  and with  little maintenance to be carried out , on the other hand there are some cons that should not be underestimated:

  • No remote control : You cannot change the temperature if you are not at home, which can be inconvenient and inefficient in some situations.
  • No smart integration : You can't connect them to other smart devices or manage them via voice commands or apps.
  • Obsolescence : An old thermostat could become less reliable over time, with the risk of sudden failures at the most inopportune moments.

On the other hand, opting for the installation of a new thermostat, if it can have as a disadvantage a  highest initial cost  and a  greater management "complexity" , offers notable  advantages in terms of comfort and energy efficiency :

  • Remote control : You can manage the temperature of your home wherever you are via smartphone, tablet or computer, allowing you to save energy and optimize comfort even remotely.
  • Greater energy efficiency : Many models implement boiler modulation functions, which save energy
  • Integration with smart home systems : The new thermostats are compatible with voice assistants such as Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, allowing you to manage the temperature with voice commands or through home automation scenarios.
  • Software Updates : Many Wi-Fi thermostats receive regular updates, improving functionality without having to change hardware.
  • Consumption history : You can monitor your energy consumption directly from the app, optimizing the heating on and off times.

How to replace an old thermostat

If you have decided to replace your old Seitron thermostat you will be happy to know that it is extremely simple.

The Freetime Plus and Magictime models are in fact  battery powered  and have been replaced by the new  Freetime Evo  which combines both daily and weekly programming in a single device, always battery powered.

What does it mean? All we need to do is disconnect two wires from the old thermostat and connect them to the new one to make the replacement! If you have any doubts you can always read our guide on  how to connect a two wire thermostat .

If, however, you intend to upgrade by making your heating system smart, then you need to turn to products such as the Wi-Time Wall. In this case it is necessary to first make sure that the power cables are also present, in addition to those for the boiler consent.

Also in this case the replacement is simple, as it will be enough to connect the two consent cables as they are connected to the old battery thermostat, while the power cables will be connected to the L and N terminals.
